In 2012 and 2013, transmission system of United Arab Emirates experienced inter-area oscillations of relatively small amplitude, especially during winter period. This motivated TRANSCO to analyze this phenomenon through realization of Studies of the Low Frequency Oscillatory Phenomenon with a goal to examine origins and severity of phenomena in present and future planned network topologies. With regards to conclusions of these Studies, a Wide Area Monitoring System in transmission system of TRANSCO has been proposed for consideration as it would give added value to transmission monitoring and control of observed inter-area oscillations within TRANSCO power system and GCC interconnection.
The objective is to provide high level Techno-economic analysis of WAMS implementations through following steps:
- Identification of the optimal number of PMUs that shall be part of future WAMS and their location in the system
- Scope of Work assessment for the Concept Design and Front End Engineering Design – FEED stages (i.e. subsequent design project stages)
- High level and preliminary assessment of the investments required to accommodate the PMU placement in TRANSCO system.
Type of services provided:
- Small Signal Stability analyses
- Remedial actions to increase system stability
- Techno-economic analysis
