Aim of the Connection Study of small hydro power plant (HPP) Bočac 2 to the distribution network of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) was to analyze the compliance of the new power plant with the technical criteria defined by Distribution System Operator’s Connection Code. New power plant, with 10MVA (2x5MVA) nominal power connected to the 35 kV distribution network, is a production facility built within the dam and water accumulation of the existing HPP Bočac. Small HPP Bočac 2 is equipped with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG) of compact construction type (ECOBulbTM) produced by Andritz Hydro company.

For the purpose of the connection study, following analyses were conducted:

  • Load flow calculation and voltage profile assessment,
  • N-1 security criteria assessment,
  • Voltage changes analysis for the steady state regime and during the transient process
  • Short circuit analysis
  • Voltage regulation capability assessment
  • Stability analysis (Faull Ride Through analysis and successful/unsuccessful automatic  re-closure analysis)

All analyses were conducted on current state simulation models of B&H power system with surrounding countries, suitable for both static and dynamic analyses, for two characteristic regimes (maximum and minimum loading of the power system).

Type of services provided:

  • Modelling of small HPP Bočac 2 for steady state and stability analysis considering the peculiarity of the primary equipment (directly connected Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators - PMSG).
  • Distribution network loading analysis
  • N-1 security criteria assessment
  • Voltage changes analysis (for steady state and transient process)
  • Short circuit analysis
  • Voltage regulation capability assessment
  • Transient stability analysis (Fault Ride Through and Automatic Re-closure Analysis)
