AC Equivalent Study of the Irish and UK Network

Client: Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG (Germany)

Type: Study

Finishing date: April 2022 (June 2022)

Team: Nebojsa Jovic - Project Manager, M. Ivanovic, M. Stojanovic

The aim of the project is to create an AC equivalent network that will be applied for the needs of digital simulations in real time as part of testing the dynamic performance of control devices on HVDC systems conducted by Siemens.

This study covers the following activities:

  • Analysis of the original PowerFactory models of the UK network from the aspect of the possibility of creating a network equivalent and the initial results of static and dynamic simulations
  • Analysis of the original PSS/E network models of Ireland from the aspect of the possibility of creating a network equivalent and the initial results of static and dynamic simulations
  • Defining the part of the network that retains the original structure and data (Retain network) and the part of the network that needs to be equivalent
  • Creating an AC equivalent of the network according to the requirements of real-time simulations
  • Validating static calculations between the original and equivalent model in accordance with the Client's requirements
  • Validating dynamic calculations between the original and the equivalent model in accordance with the Client's requirements
  • Preparation of a detailed report containing information on the applied methodology, description of the original model, single line diagram, comparison of the obtained results for the original and equivalent model and detailed data on the components of the static and dynamic AC equivalent model

Type of services provided:

  • Grid modelling
  • Creation of a static network equivalent
  • Creation of a dynamic system equivalent
  • Validation of the equivalent for static calculations
  • Validation of the equivalent for dynamic calculations
