The purpose of this Feasibility Study is to examine the 400kV connection between FYR of Macedonia and Albania, from techno-economic, social and environmental point of view.

Target years for these analyses are 2017 and 2020 and considered regimes are winter peak load (2017 and 2020) and summer peak and minimum load (2017). Following design studies have been provided:

  • Load flow studies including contingency analysis;
  • TTC and GTC calculations;
  • Fault calculations;
  • Static stability studies;
  • Transient stability studies including CCT calculation;
  • Analysis of generation/exchange scenarios based on market aspects.

Within this study comparison of variants without analyzed tie-line, with tie-line 400 kV Elbasan (AL) – Ohrid (MK) – Bitola (MK) and with direct tie-line Elbasan (AL) – Bitola (MK) has been performed, so influence of the analyzed interconnection variants can be determined.

The main objective of the study is to determine is considered 400 kV interconnection justified from techno-economical point of view, as well as from social and environmental point of view.
