Black Sea Regional Transmission System Planning Project (BSTP):

  • Study: RES Integration using Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) in the BSTP Region
  • Improvement of the Regional Network Model Developed in PSS/E with the Focus on Parameters Relevant for Stability Analyses
  • Capacity Building – Stability Analyses including the Latest Developments in PSS/E software
  • Capacity Building – Procedures related to TYNDPs and Transfer of the Newest Methodologies Developed by ENTSO-E – CBA 3.0
  • Capacity Building – Advanced Antares Workshop (Add-ons and version 7.x implementation)
  • Update of the Regional Market and Network Models

This project included the following main modeling and study activities:

  • Update of the dynamic model and initial testing described in the Dynamic Model Update report New large-scale RES capacities present a challenge to the secure power system operation also from dynamic perspectives for which accurate and most updated dynamic models are essential. This activity enables BSTP member TSOs to get updated dynamic model for the year 2025 and 2030.
  • Introduction of the FACTS devices and analyses of test cases with presentation of the results in FACTS analyses Report New large-scale RES capacities present a challenge in the sense of the flexibility needs. This activity enables BSTP member TSOs to get state-of-the art information about FACTS devices, their modeling in the PSS/E with presentation of their potential implementation in several test cases.

In addition, to improve the capacity of the BSTP Member TSOs, the Consultant conducted several workshops:

  • WS regarding stability analyses based on the latest improvements of the PSS/E software tool in modeling specific network elements and their dynamic parameters, disturbances simulations and testing of the system response
  • WS regarding FACTS devices modeling and testing of their implementation
  • WS regarding ENTSO-E CBA 3.0 methodology implementation in the process of the network development planning
  • WS regarding Advanced Antares features (Add-ons and version 7.x implementation)

Also, at the end of this project, updated market and network models were transferred to BSTP members.

Type of services provided:

  • Update and adjustments of the BSTP dynamic model in PSS/E for 2025 and 2030
  • Testing of the dynamic models
  • FACTS modeling in PSS/E
  • Analyses of FACTS implementation in test cases
  • Update of the BSTP power systems model in Antares sw tool
  • BSTP regional transmission network model update
