Calculation of Short Circuit Currents in SS Podgorica 1 from the Aspect of Dimensioning Grounding System

client: CGES ad (Montenegro)

type: Study (Transmission, Power Quality)

finishing time: May 2016

team: Milan Ivanovic - Project Leader, M. Vukovic - Consultant

Main objective of the Study is to examine adequacy the existing grounding system in SS Podgorica 1 in terms of thermal load on the current state and the expected level of development in stages 2020 and 2025, in accordance with the applicable transmission network development plan of Montenegro. Based on several standards, maximal permissible earth fault currents in terms of thermal load have been calculated for the existing grounding system. The results of the analysis should point to possible not allowed thermal stress of the existing grounding system. The following activities are carried out:

  • Calculation of subtransient, transient and steady state currents for single pole short circuits in TS Podgorica 1 for 220, 110 and 35 kV voltage level in PSS/E, according to the international standard IEC 60909
  • Calculation of maximum permissible earth fault current, in terms of thermal loading of the existing grounding system
  • Proposal of measures for reduction of short-circuit currents in SS Podgorica 1

Type of services provided:

  • Load flow analyses
  • Network security assessment
  • Short circuit analyses
