Improving transmission network connection between Montenegro and neighboring systems is realized by the construction of 400 kV interconnection line to Albania. The significance of the new line is versatile and beside improvement of interconnection between two systems, is expected to provide relief of existing 220 kV interconnection in Montenegro, increase in transit, increasing cross-border transmission capacity and improve voltage profile.

The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of commissioning new interconnection line, between Montenegro and Albania, the change of power flows, losses, transmission capacity in the system of Montenegro with all new network elements planned in system for year 2011.

The study provide following analyses:

  • General overview and implementation of new elements in model of Montenegrin system
  • Load flow analyses at steady state
  • Voltage profile analyses
  • Steady state security analyses (n-1 security criteria verification)
  • Power losses analyses
  • Power losses analyses within W/WoT methodology of ITC mechanism
  • Calculation of NTC values in all three directions (Serbia, BiH and Albania).

For different regimes and utilization of new interconnection line with regard to commission phase in power system of Montenegro and Albania, analyses are carried out in several configurations. Special attention is given to the voltage profiles due to the possibility of unilateral commissioning of new transmission line, only on the side of Montenegro and the effect that the element has on the power system of Montenegro when it is idling.
