Implementation of Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) in Power System of Serbia

Serbia
Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS)

client: Elektromreza Srbije - EMS (Serbia)

type: System implementation (Software, Power System Monitoring and Control)

finishing date: December 2015 (April 2016)

team: Consortium EKC – ELPROS (Slovenia) – Saturn Electric (Serbia); EKC team: Nebojsa Jovic - Project Leader, M. Vukovic - Consultant

Wide Area Monitoring System ensures monitoring of dynamic system performance and alarming in cases of violations of stability margins, by measuring phasors at the same instant (GPS synchronized) in the whole interconnection and real-time processing of received data. Off-line usage of phasor’s measurements is related to system planning and dynamic analyses, namely post-event analyses, dynamic model validation, root cause analyses, load characteristics, primary frequency responses etc.

Objectives of this project are:

  • To coordinate all activities between purchaser and contractor teams related to the project time schedule, on-site visit and preparation of specific locations for PMU installation, procurement of equipment, basic and advanced training, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
  • To perform basic and advanced WAMS training for dispatchers, system engineers and protection engineers
  • To perform Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on Contractor premises to ensure that purchased equipment are in accordance with requested specifications
  • To assist during installation of PMU devices in specific locations defined by EMS and setting of their parameters accordingly
  • To perform Site Acceptance Test (SAT) to ensure that system is fully operational in real system conditionsTo install central PDC unit in National Dispatching Center of Serbia together with all requested dynamic stability monitoring functions (low frequency oscillation detection, voltage stability, islanding recovery/resynchronization, transient stability (angle difference), active, reactive and system frequency monitoring) and set its operating parameters.

Type of services provided:

  • Project management
  • Assistance in installation of PMUs in substations
  • Installation of PDC unit in National Dispatching Center
  • Parameter settings and system implementation
  • Training
