Team: Milan Stojanovic – Project Manager, L. Mladjenovic

In the previous period, within power system of Ethiopia a need for installing reactive power compensation device was recognized due to registered high voltages in the transmission system. Analyses conducted within this project aimed at defining optimal locations for installing the compensation devices as well as to determine their required MVAr size. Considered type of compensation devices was STATCOM in order to provide fast dynamic reactive power support after certain outages in the transmission system.

In addition, within the project analysis of newly proposed under frequency load shedding (UFLS) scheme was conducted. For this type of analysis several generator outages have been simulated for two cases – isolated operation and interconnected operation with power system of Sudan. Based on conducted analyses recommendations for improvement of UFLS scheme were provided.

All analyses were conducted by using Siemens PSS/E software tool.

Type of services provided:

  • Load flow calculation and voltage profile assessment
  • Contingency analysis N-1
  • Selection of optimal location for installation of compensation devices
  • Frequency stability analysis
  • Recommendations for improvement of proposed UFLS scheme
