Study for Technical Solution for Connection of Submerged Arc Furnace to B&H Transmission Grid

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Study RS Silicon

client: RS Silicon (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

type: Study (Transmission, Power Quality)

finishing date: March 2014

team: Milos Stojkovic – Project Manager, N. Rusanov  and M. Vukovic – Consultants, A. Oros, S. Markovic

The goal of the Study is to analyze project solutions for installing a Submerged Arc Furnace in Mrkonjić Grad and the possible negative impact on the power system of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Study results define the range of possible effects on the power system, and hence the necessary aspects for the issue of power system compliance, with the purpose that the operation of the power system continues to remain in a steady, secure and reliable operation with less electrical pollution in transmission and distribution network after the commissioning of analyzed consumer. Study also indicates the possible directions of power system transmission network development plans of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the region of interest, and indicates the company "RS-Silicon" options or possible difficulties in order to achieve the contracted and installed capacities.

The construction of the plant has begun in 2013 and commissioning is expected by year 2015. Total power capacity (~ 27MW) can be divided in: 22MW (36MVA) for SAF, supplied by three single phase transformer, and 4.5MW (5MVA) for auxiliary systems.
